We spent a year in England when I was little, and a robin red breast always reminds me of that year. Which is pretty amazing, considering I was six!
Anyways, here he is on a navy background. His legs are quite dark too, so I'd recommend adding some hand stitching to make them stand out. Handstitching is my answer to most things, it makes any crafty thing seriously special. A simple running stitch will do the job if you're a little inexperienced. I like to use Perle Cotton # 5 or 8.
